Our mission

The Society for Responsible Energy Use believes that every household has the power to reduce its energy consumption and thereby contribute to a more sustainable world. Our mission is to educate the public about energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and smart investments in home renovation - without commercial interests and without hidden costs.

We operate independently, with a single goal: to help Slovenian households make informed decisions that reduce both energy costs and carbon footprint in the long term.

Why we exist

A household deciding on an energy renovation is almost always in an unequal position. The decision is a large one - a comprehensive renovation of a detached house quickly runs to tens of thousands of euros - yet the information overwhelmingly comes from the people selling or installing the equipment. Quotations are hard to compare, because each supplier highlights the parameters that suit them best. Subsidy terms change from year to year, and the technical vocabulary in a quotation is impenetrable to most people.

The consequence is that many households commit to a measure that should not have come first in their building - a heat pump before insulating the envelope, for instance - and then never see the saving they expected. The Society for Responsible Energy Use was entered in the register on 14 October 2022 precisely to narrow that gap. We believe every household should have access to a clear, impartial explanation before it signs a contract, not afterwards.

What we do

A free energy calculator - We built and published an online calculator that estimates annual heat demand, energy class and the expected saving from six different renovation measures. It uses a simplified model based on standard EN ISO 13790, and all inputs are processed entirely in the visitor's browser. No registration is required, and the calculation methodology is published in full, including default values and known limitations.

Guidance and content - We maintain a library of practical guidance on the order to renovate in, heat pumps, facade insulation, window replacement, solar power and current subsidies. We update it whenever Eko sklad's public calls change, and we cite our sources so readers can check them independently.

Answering households' questions - Through our contact form we answer questions about home energy renovation free of charge: which measure makes sense first in a particular house, what the technical values in a received quotation mean, and where to check co-funding terms. Where a question requires an inspection of the building, we refer people to the free ENSVET advisory network operated under the auspices of Eko sklad.

How we operate

Our independence is what makes our answers useful, so the following principles apply:

• We do not sell equipment or broker contractors. We have no contractual relationships with suppliers of heat pumps, windows, facade systems or photovoltaics.
• We do not recommend brands or models. Instead we explain the technical parameters that let a visitor compare quotations for themselves.
• We receive no commission. We are not paid for any referral or recommendation.
• There is no advertising on this site. We do not sell space to advertisers and use no ad networks.
• We do not trade in personal data. We never receive calculator inputs at all - they stay in the visitor's browser - and contact form messages are not stored in any database.
• Everything is free and requires no registration. No account is needed to use the tools or read the content.

We fund our work through donations and grants, and the work of the society's members is voluntary. The society is not registered for VAT and carries out no profit-making activity. In the business register we are classified under activity code S.15000 - non-profit institutions serving households.
